Heartfelt Spring Family Photos in Colorado

One of the best parts of my job is creating something tangible that can tether loved ones to each other while they’re apart. J is about to leave for his deployment, and the Mendoza family wanted to update their photos before he goes. If you live in Colorado, you know that we’ve had an abnormally dry and warm winter. When Abby called to schedule their spring family photos, we were hoping for mild spring weather. We ended up getting some of the only snow of the season instead! What are the odds that the temperatures were in the 60s and 70s all week leading up to their session, and then it cools down on session day? Fortunately, we booked the Cottage at Conifer in the mountains for their spring family photos in Colorado so we would have the option to shoot indoors and outdoors. The snow ended up being a beautiful addition to their photos and planning ahead to have an indoor option was the best thing we could have done! I can’t speak highly enough of the studio owner. Jessica checked in with me the day of the session, shoveled a path for us, and pays attention to detail, and that made all the difference!

The Mendozas are dear friends of mine and have been booking family photos with me since I started my business. Given that they’ve been with me for my entire journey, and that they’re going to be apart for a year, this felt like the perfect time to debut session video. When Abby is putting the kids to bed at night and they’re missing their dad, she’ll be able to show them this video. If Abby has a tough day of solo parenting while J is gone, her session video will be waiting to show her that she’s surrounded by people who adore her. And someday, when they’re no longer in the thick of parenting small children, Abby and J will watch this video and wonder when those tiny hands got so big. Pairing session video with photos has been a dream of mine for a while, and it’s my great honor to introduce video by sharing the story of an extraordinary family. Abby and J are caring and attentive parents and you can see just how much they love their kids, and each other, in their photos and video. I dare you NOT to cry!

Mendoza family, thank you SO much for your continued support and trust. It means the world to me to document the small moments that make up your family’s story. Watching Abby and J become parents, and then hit their stride in parenthood, has been a privilege. If I can be half the parent they are, I know my boys will turn out just fine!
